THE NEED…
The teenagers who "age out"
(turn 18 years old) or complete high school, are emancipated
from the Foster Care System. These "young adults" often find
themselves instantly on their own with no financial resources,
limited training or education, and no housing or support from
family or the community.
Most of these youth have histories of significant abuse, neglect,
and abandonment. They have often gone through several placements
in foster homes or "group homes" by Child Protection Services.
They rarely have any individual or family that they can
consistently depend on. Without
mentoring and motivation, most former foster kids find
themselves homeless, pregnant or in jail.
They are in need of life skills training and housing assistance
as well as healthcare access, educational, vocational and
employment guidance.
