THE PLAN…
All programs are designed to assist the youth in achieving
emancipation, education and employment goals. Participants in
the program live independently, participate in individual and
group life skills instruction, and receive counseling,
healthcare access and mentoring.
Housing Assistance
This program gives the youth the opportunity to live
independently with other roommates in subsidized housing
arrangements. The participants chosen for this program must
meet the following:

Be in college or vocational school taking at least 12
units or complete their GED in a six month period.

Required to pay for their food and other household
cleaning / maintenance items

Required to save 20% of their income in a savings
account that will be theirs to keep once they launch
from the program.

Expected to attend all training sessions on budgeting,
cooking, cleaning, shopping, interpersonal
communication, interviewing skills, etc.

Expected to work together to maintain the dwelling in
the condition in which they first moved in.

Required to attend all house meetings with their
roommates and a mentor.
Life Skills Training
This program is comprised of six components that have been
carefully designed to meet the needs of the emancipating
youth.

Education Assistance: Assist in obtaining and
completing college / school, grant and loan
applications.

Employment Assistance: Assist in obtaining
part-time or full-time employment

Domestic Skills: Teach basic cleaning and cooking
skills. Also how to budget, balance a check book and
shop wisely.

Transportation: Bus passes will be made available
to the participants (as needed). If the youth owns a
car, we will help subsidize repair costs.

Counseling: This includes role playing, conflict
resolution, interpersonal communication, discussion
about making positive life choices, etc.

Mentoring: Youth in the program are required to
spend at least four hours a month with their mentor.
